Isn't this just reflecting your typical generation gap?
I tend to think so (mixed in with the context of academia, which is even more "old-guard" than "old-guard"), although you'd be surprised at the number of people who think Prensky is dead wrong.
Funny also is the percentile of GTAs and faculty who barely know their way around a basic OS.
